Hello all,
This is a simple question and I'm looking for a schooling fish with strong color. I have found the Blue Chromis but it looks like a Blue Damsel. I know Damsels are aggressive bullies.

Is it the same fish?

Thanks,

this is chromis viridis, its the most common of the chromis spesies exported

they are very peaceful but on occasion there are rare instances of mishaps involving them.. but its not common..

i was told to go with green cromis. blue chromis tho pretty are from deeper waters and dont live long in home aquariums. thats why you always see the green in lfs's. when you get 3 or more chromis they do great getting all your fish out swimming in the open. i was told when they are out swimming it lets other fish know its safe to be out there too. they kind of let other fish know to hide if preditors are in the area. i hope this helps tyou make your descission

Thank you...
I've never really done a schooling fish....
Is there a better number for a group of schooling fish....

Can I go with a large number?

common names lead to confusion

common names lead to confusion

that being stated, Chromis are members of the Damselfish family.

So are Clownfish.

Technically (and I won't argue with anyone that disagrees because obviously they must know more than me!) Damselfish do not school.

FYI (a cammon mistake):
The plural and singular of Chromis is Chromis.

say it kro (long o)-miss

Blue Chromis and Blue Damselfish (bad to use common names!) are NOT usually the same fish but might be depending on who's calling the shots!

the species shown in this picture will kill off the weakest individuals until only the few strongest 2 or 3 survive.

Once they start spawning they are extremely aggressive and they will take on any other fish they feel threatens them- even large aggressive fishes.
