Are Gold Stripe Maroon's known to jump??

Rat Bastard!
I had a GSM in my small garage tank for about a week and found him on the floor today. This morning I did a change of about 1 gallon (20G tank) and it looked fine, lounging in its rose bubble. About an hour later I walked out to do something, glanced in the tank and didn't see the fish. Found it a few minutes later under my motorcycle.

Are these fish known to jump? It seemed to be in good health and the only other fish is a pseudo-chromis about the same size so I don't think it was chased out or fell ill. This is the first GSM I've ever owned and the first fish death I've had in years. When I get another do I need a screen?

Thanks,
Mike

Cover the tank, its better to be safe than sorry. Most all fish have the potential to jump, some more than others.

It is so easy to go to a hardware store like Lowe's and get all you need to make a great lid (screen door section) for under $50.00- and finish the lid in under an hour! How can this not be worth the effort in light of the cost of marine fish and the loss of life!

+1 to everything. There's no reason everyone shoudn't have a cover on their tank by now. So many fish could be saved.
