are mantis ok with treated tapwater?

Well I think my tank is pretty much ready, I've got some live rock in there, some mechanical/biological filtration & the readings are within spec.

I'm just wondering about water changes. I've read tapwater is a nono for corals, but does anyone successfully use treated & mixed tapwater with their mantis? The water in there at the moment was bought from my LFS, but I don't fancy the expense and mostly the trouble of having to fetch it regularly.

In future I might get an RO/RI unit, some fancy lighting and corals, but I'm happy taking it one step at a time at the mo.

Hope someone can help!

The answer depends on what method your water district uses to treat its water. Water that has been treated with chlorine is usually safe if properly adged and treated, but water that has been treated with chloramine is not without proper filtration.

Unfortunately, this is one of those things that the water district usually does not tell you unless you ask.

I bought one of those tap water filters (activated carbon resin deionizer) for about $40 at my lfs. It pulls out 98% of contaminants, as well as chloramine...
