Are Maxi Jet 1200's controllable?

If plugged into an Apex unit? By controllable I mean basically using the Apex to turn them on/off for varied amounts of time. Will this kill the pump motor? I'm stil setting up and plan on Vortech's down the road, but I'm starting out with 4 seaswirls as my returns for varied flow and will throw a couple of modded maxi-jets on each side for now.

Lots of people have used maxis on a wavemaker, but keep in mind that the motor is not designed to work this way so it will shorten the lifespan. Not so drastically that it would happen over night or anything. Especially if its a longer on and off cycle.

Are you using the 'prop' setup or the regular powerhead setup. If you are using the prop, just be careful since it occasionally will stick on startup.

Not sure. I haven't even purchased the Apex yet. I'm just planning out the start. I have a few maxi's already and plan to purchase the Apex soon. Just trying to spread out the initial cost!!

MJ1200's are quite resilient. I have even run one dry for 2 straight days and it still works. How often are you planning the Apex to turn them on and off for pulsing? If you just mean once every 10-15 minutes or so, I seriously doubt you will have any issues.

I use about 12 of them connected to my Apex right now. For a complex water transfer and change system + a couple on pieces of equipment. Most important thing is to only have them on an EB4 or the 4/8 ports on the EB8. MJ1200's use too little current to be on a Triac port of an EB8... I have flooded my fish room several times until I figured that out :) Won't matter as much if you have them for your purpose, but know that you will have on/off issues if used on the wrong EB port.

Thanks for the input. I'll definitley keep that in mind.
