Are Maximas seasonal or what?

Anyone around OC area seen some Maixmas at LFS lately? I've been looking for the past month or so and really havent seen any, with the exception of a couple that really werent that great looking. I remember a year or two ago Maximas were everywhere, now the craze seems to be Croceas. Anyone else notice this?

I was just at Coral Oasis yesterday and he has a nice looking Maxima. He is going to be setting up a clam tank...you should ask him about it.

Pet Supreme has alot of them for 39.99 for some 5-6inch ones and croceas too!

Where does Tongs keep them? In the frag tank? Everytime I cruise over that direction all he has is like one or two and they do not have the awsome colors that I used to see around.

And yeah... where is Pet Supreme?

tongs has some there and some in the 2nd row from the right.....kid of by the anemones just to the left of thier bagging section

I heard their not collecting them from the wild anymore, I don't know if thats true or not.

That would make sense rxdi, at least it would be consistant with what I have noticed.

i was at tongs last week and they did have a lot of clams but not very good color.

Clams have not been wild harvested for quite a number of years they were overharvested so they began to culture them in shallow lagoons the same way they harvest live rock and a lot of corals. They are usually available year round it depends on the store I know that Tongs in FV has them quite often they keep them in different tanks sometime they are in their SPS frag tank sometimes they are in the large display tank in the right back side of the store and sometimes they are in the display tank in the left rear side of the store.

I went to Pet Supreme. They don't have any Maximas...they are all croceas.

Mine, are farm raised from the Marshall Islands.

no more wild maxima clams...the farm ones are spotty and not all that nice looks like a few years till there is a decent selection of great looking maxima.
