Are microbubbles bad for seahorses?

My fuge is fed from the first part of my sump where the water returns from the main tanks. There are a fair amount of microbubbles being blown into the fuge that I can see in the light. Will this cause an issue?

Thanks.

Hi again.

It shouldn't. The microbubbles that are a medical problem for seahorses are the truly tiny microbubbles that would come from you having an air leak in a pump that was injecting air into the tank at high pressure.

Now, when a male is flushing his pouch, it is possible for him to trap airbubbles in his pouch if he's flushing it while hitched to an airline or while swimming in a very bubbly area, but those sorts of bubbles are usually able to be evacuated by the male without human intervention.

If you do start to see gas bubble problems in your seahorses, then its possible that taking a look at your equipment, tinkering around, and swapping it out (especially skimmers), could help prevent future problems. But, we're not really sure of the mechanism for why that is sometimes the case (and it certainly isn't always the case).

No matter what, its a good idea to have Diamox on hand since it takes 2 weeks to arrive; too long when it's needed.
