are my chromis showing agression or making out?

This was the first time I have ever seen this. I added two blue/green chromis that are the same size to my tank and in QT there wasnt any aggression. they dont chase eachother and there arent any nipped fins. I turned my head to look at my tank and this is what I saw...any ideas? should I add a third?

And adding a 3rd would make it two again for a while? Chromis are well known for practicing survival of the fittest until only remains. Sadly, this is very common.

Anthias are not chromis. Last time I checked anyway.

It's a pretty common fish fighting practice.

Do they get along when they aren't lip-locking? If not, it's two males, soon to be one. If they are otherwise peaceful, you either have a pair or two females paired up. Lip-locking is a very common form of aggression and courtship/pair-bonding in many Perciformes. And yes, two females can pair up in the absence of a male.

I've had the same two chromis in my tank for about 8 years and they did this for awhile but I haven't seen them do it in a couple of years. Multiple feedings sometimes can help ease aggression between them.
