Ok I have a pair of true percs that were actually married in the wild. I've had them for almost 2 years. THey have always been great together, never spawned but stll got along great. 2 weeks ago I noticed the female was picking on the male alot. Well I've recently tore down my 65 gallon and purchased a 12g aquapod. I now have the percs in there and now the male is very aggressive towards the female and they are going at it. Very violently. Why are they doing this and what sould I do?

Mine squabble a lot but they dont do any damage to one another. Usually their either spawing, guarding eggs or squabbling. Kind of a disfunctional relationship but its great fun to watch.

well they have never spawned before so i'm not sure it's that. So moving them into a smaller tank would change there behavior? but this is the 3rd time i've moved them and they've never behaved like this before.

Yup, you need to get them a very good divorce attorney.

I pretty sure that the female would ask for the bigger tank, the BTA, and all of the big live rocks; and the male only gets a few small rocks

in the larger tanks where they always together?
how violent is violent? if you see fins being torn then there's no question that you should seperate the two, otherwise you should leave them be. it is also the male that should be jerking, as the females are more dominant, are you sure you sexed them right? i also don't think percs are considered paired unless they have spawned, as they spawn very often.

I think saltyESQ deals with this type civil dispute : )

Do they appear to be hurt? The environment change could cause stress. Also, are you sure they have already sex differentiated? If not, they could be in the process, which does sometimes get violent!

ya always together in all tanks. I haven't seen any ripped fins yet. The female has always been the dominant one. Like I said 2 weeks ago she was attacking the male. Now all of a sudden the male is attacking her.
