This is my first reef tank and I started last week. I see the tentacles extend at night and when I turn on the light in the morning. I feed the corals Reef Chili every night. The pictures online show these corals looking a lot brighter.
Do you guys think there is anything wrong with my coral frags?

Let me know if you want to see a certain angle of these corals.

They look fine. Different lighting will make corals look different, so where you bought them from had different lighting.

They definitely look healthy to me -- of course, everything takes time to acclimate to a new envionment, and of course they "close up" and night when the lights are off. After the lights have been on for a while, they will start to blow up more to full size. You will definitely be able to tell when they're not doing well.

Thanks guys. It must have been the different lighting from the store and my tank. Its hard to tell if the green one is bleaching or not. At night, they both send out short tentacles and long transparent longer sticky tentacles (I target feed Coral Frenzy and Reef Chili, and see food sticking to these long transparent tentacles), so I'm assuming they are doing well. Its been about 3 weeks now and they don't look any different. Its a good sign.

so you feed a 2x a week food 7x a week? not saying it cant be done, but you just started so why not follow the instructions til you know how the tank will react?

I feed everyday, changing from coral frenzy and reef chili interchangeably, target feeding a microspoon amount. 3 weeks since i started. nitrate 0, phos 0.4 with no algae yet. No signs of problems yet, so i keep feeding them 1/2 to 1 microspoons daily. Some days I forget as well.

Good suggestion. I should have followed instructions and increased feeding little by little each week.

Good choice for a first coral. I have a couple of trumpets and they grow like crazy. You really don't need to feed them more than once a week. Wait until their tentacles are extended. Being so new to your tank you may have to wait a week or so before this happens.

Last night I was feeding with all lights off. I shined a flash light into the tank just to see what I found:

The trumpet on the right looks healthy. Its doing really well. Then I saw the one on the left - it was a really bleached trumpet coral. At the LFS, I thought the left one was suppose to be fluorescent green. Then I bought them and did not see the glow on the outer parts, which is the main reason for posting this thread. I will not buy anything from that LFS anymore. Even though it was only $8, I lost all trust in that LFS.

Do you guys have any idea how long it might take for the left trumpet coral to regain its color?

I wouldn't lose all trust. There's not a single LFS that doesn't eat a great deal of livestock/coral loss every day. With as much as they have in their systems there's no way they can baby each coral damaged in shipment, etc. There's also no way they can place each coral in its best location nor control the spread of zoas & other corals onto their frag racks/rocks/tank walls.

To me you got a great deal ($8) on a coral that will soon recover. No one can tell you how long it will take, everyone's system & each coral is different.

Quick question, there is some fuzz growing on the exoskeleton of both trumpets. What is the fuzz?

Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0.4 at the time of the picture.

I stopped feeding for the past week. The fuzzy stuff is disappearing, so it must be some form of algae. Its strange to see the only algae is growing on this trumpet.
