Larger tanks just prolong the inevitable, meaning this isn't a solution.
To keep it, you would need several square meters (notice the vague language) of deep sand bad (30 cm if not more), replenished with fresh sand with creatures - just like in nature.
Plus, they pretty much wipe out all living critters in your sand bed...these are important to your biological filter. I'd say NO to adding one for sure.
It can take up to 18 months for a sand sifting starfish to begin starving to death. Although some people do manage to keep them alive, they generally do die in home aquariums.
Fromia is in the same boat as most of the pretty stars in the hobby. We don't know what they eat, but they don't seem to find enough of it except in very large tanks with lots of old LR. Typically they live for a few months to a year or so before they starve to death.
