Are Seio Powerheads good?

I like them alot for the price, I use the 1500's and they are kinda large but good quality for the price, if I could afford 1k for powerheads I would buy tunze.

Mine had startup problems after the first start. It has never started on its own even after days of soaking in pure vinegar. Can't wait for the new tunze to come out so I can junk it.

Honestly, everytime I see one of these posts, I want to hit someone.
If your tunze came in the mail and didnt work, would you keep it? NO, you'd call tunze and get them to replace.
Why the heck dont people think to do the same with these pumps.
AFAIC, the fact that this pump doesnt work is your own problem, and not a problem with SEIOS. If you get a defective unit, return it.
i had 3 quit on me within a fewdays running in a tank with just saltwater ( no sand no nothing.. and one of them actualy broke my gfi. i cant reset it now)
taams customer service isnt as good as tunzes thats why people dont replace them
i may give the pumps another shot since maybe htey improved them since i got em ( over a year ago)

I had one that broke an impellar the first week. TAAM replaced it no questions asked. Their service was great for me.
It seems most people dont even try.

The only thing I've noticed regarding the startup issues is that the 620's and 820's sometimes need lifted to the water surface and resubmerged after power off. Same with dirty 1500's after about 6 months. If you loosen the big main impeller housing screw on cap, it seems to give it a little more room and lessens the non-start instances. They're not supposed to be turned on and off as stated by TAAM. This may not even happen any more since I've had mine all over 1 year.

They seem vary. I bought two 820's at the same time last year. One is strong as an ox, and will keep going even with quite a bit of calcium build up, the other stops on a regular basis, even when clean. It's done it since a few weeks after I bought it..
I have to take it out of the water, and unscrew the end to get it started. Even then, when I stick it back in the water it will stop. I emailed TAAM about it, and they said I needed to clean it even though I told them it had just been completely cleaned. When I reiterated that I had cleaned it already, their reply was to purchase a new impeller for it.
I had the same experience with a couple of 620's too.

Interesting, I received my for Xmas (2004) and I've never had an issue with restarts (620s, 3 of them). Mine are all hooked up to a wavemaker, so they have to restart a lot. I will get a little noise once in a while, but they always have restarted.

SPS so I have high calcium levels.

I had more problems with a 6060 Tunze than I ever did with a 1500 Seio. The Tunze would lock up if I had a power outtage and make a heck of racket. The Seio just caught snails.

I have 2 820s they have been in constant use for 2yrs + I run a very high alk and cal which will kill any pump, tunze included. the key word here is regular maintenance if they lock up the impeller on the ceramic shaft your screwed but the good news is a whole impeller assembly will only you cost you about 15 bucks

I have an 1100 well over a year old, never cleaned it, stops and starts once a day on a timer for feeding - no problems. Nice unit especially considering the price. I did a mod though - removed the outer box and the collar, and cut away every other piece of plastic where the intake slots are - way more flow.
But. I made one of the 'maxi-streams' and that has awesome flow, even less expensive than a Seio, and smaller. Didn't ditch the Seio though, I use both.
