I've always been told that you can only ever keep one pair of clowns per tank, and (for the most part) I have abided by this rule, and am currently keeping a pair of perculas in my 120 (TB platinum, WC perc.), but there are several other species that have always caught my eye, specifically the fire clown (Amphiprion ephippium). I understand that this species is notably more aggressive than any percula out there, and God knows I wouldn't risk my pair, but I was wondering down the road, especially with a larger tank, would I be able to get away with mixing several species (percula, ocellaris, orange skunk, fire, black saddle etc.) in a tank, if I only keep one of each species? I have mixed my percula pair with a large WC skunk and WC orange skunk in my 120 with 0 issues to speak of, and I kept them all together for about 8 months or so. It seems that most fish, such as cardinals and damsels, will become much more belligerent when kept in pairs, which makes sense, and I was wondering if the same logic could apply to mixing clown species. No rush, mainly just asking out of curiosity, and am wondering if any of you guys have tried it yourself and had success. Thanks
