Hi guys,

Well today I bought a seahorse for my tank and went to watch a movie. When i came back I saw these on the sand of my tank:

They look like clownfish eggs to me but I'm not sure. All I have in the tank that can produce eggs are a pair of harlequin shrimps, a pair of onyx, and one seahorse. I know seahorses produce live frys. So.....can anyone tell me what kind of eggs are these? Clownfish? Shrimp? Other? Thanks.

Thanks. I think they might have been on a rock but today I was moving rocks around and they might have fell off. Good to hear my pair is happy in their new tank. =)

Issey, make note to self, never move a clown fish nest.
They will have to start all over finding that perfect nesting site if you relocate the one they chose and if will take them out of there normal spawning ritual:)

It looks like female seahorse spilled her eggs.

i'm pretty sure that the male seahorse carries the eggs. those look like clown eggs to me

That was my first impression as well. The female probably spilled them before being able to give them to a male for fertilization/incubation. I've seen it happen--they do look like clown eggs, but seahorse eggs are more rounded and not attached to the substrate. Clown eggs wouldn't have fallen off had you moved something.

I agree with the seahorse theory.

a4twenty... what role do you think the female of the seahorse species fills if she does not hold eggs at some point??? :p The male only holds fertilized eggs. Much like a bangaii male.

It's possible that the female seahorse was stressed due to the tank move so it spilled the eggs. I've had seahorses before but never had any experience with spilled eggs or anything. But still possible that the eggs belonged to the clowns since the rbta was near where the eggs were at. Maybe i'll just wait and see if the clowns spawn again. If they do then i'll say clownfish eggs. If not then..seahorse. =) Thanks for everyone's input.
