Hi all !!!

I just put some anemones in my tank and wondering what they are.

I live in Corpus Christi Texas and went down to the jetty rocks and pulled them off from there in the tidal zone.

Are these guys good or bad and are they cool with fish ?

They can easily catch fish so I keep my Anthopleura kurogane anemone in its own tank. What you have is an actinia species. You might find exactly what the name of these anemones are on this website. http://www.actiniaria.com/

It looks like some of them are a Anthopleura kurogane but I can't tell because its not a sharp image.

Thanks for the info Wicked. I checked out that website and went through them all. Im not sure thats what they are..... all the ones that kinda looked like them were on the west coast.... The only ones that were gulf coast or carribean were the condy's....

The search continues and I will definetly try to get some better pics.

I would try to refrain from putting a wild animal in your tank before knowing anything about it..

I talked to Richard from TBS which is where I got everything from and showed him the pictures.

He advised that they would be ok to put in there.

Very cute anemones, how big across are they, and are the pictures their true color? Kind of blue?
They look like some sort of flower anemone to me, but I am no expert on them.
They have "less" tentacles then a flower.
Please let us know exactly what they are when you find out ok?

very cool and interesting, but I agree I would not place anything in my tank without knowing what they are. Does Richard know what they are? Telling you they will be okay for the tank is different from knowing what they actually are. Good luck and let us know what they are when you find out.

I emailed the local Aquarium some photos and hopefully they will know.

Everything seems to be doing well and happy. They haven't attacked anything that I can see.

Also the temp in the tank ranges from about 75 to 80 degrees.....right now its at 73.5...... the temp in the gulf was at 67 degrees that day.

yes those are true colors. they are actually very small in size ranging from a few centimeters to about an inch.... I would say that most are about 1/2 inch across.

Those are common warty anemones. Fine for your reef tank. They do not bother anything. I have had several in my tank for years. I got mine off the Bolivar Jetty.

COOL !!! Thanks so much AquariaOCD. I thought that they matched the pics that I found on warty's .... but there isnt much info on them. Are they safe for Clown fish as well ?

Yeah thats where my anemone came from too it came from the gulf. My lfs gave it to me for free. I love the anemone its a big eater and will accept any food. For being such a small anemone they are strong, so if they get ahold of your fingers its difficult to get them to let go. They won't bother any fish that are much bigger than them but I wouldn't trust them with small fish. I would like to have one a little more blue and purple like yours.
Here is mine.

Bad news is that clowns will not host with them, but I have never had one eat a fish. They are really very beautiful and very hardy. Mine have never wandered around the tank. Ditto on what wicekd says about them being strong. I have had then take away the tongs that I feed them shrimp with!

Thats cool..... I can live with the clowns not hosting them.... I just want to make sure that the wartys dont eat them !!!!
