the metal halide versions have extremly inefficent ballasts and need replacing. the pc versions have started a few fires who says they are great?

Where I live, there is some stores that sell that light (of course the double price) and told me about that. Did you have the place or site where talking about the fires in the pc?

Yeah, you should avoid JEBO/Odyssea products.
Cheapest solution would probably be a metal halide retrofit kit. You could probably do with 2 or 3 bulbs.
