Hey guys, Just curious if these are the dreaded parasitic snails?
I have two Maxima clmas in this tank under MH, the tank has an auto top off with kalk, and water params are perfect, everything in tank doing great but today one of the clams is preety much dead... I found these two snails crawling on the glass a week or so ago while the tank had lights off. I dont see any other reason why the clam would have died...Would an otherwise healthy clam just die from one day to the other because of these snails ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Ps. I also feed the tank Dt's, Phyco pure(live phyto mix), and Zoecon.

I ust examined the dead clam and I could not find any snails on it.. I also check the healthy clam and no snails either... I'm really stumped.

I thought thats what they were since I do have ceriths in the tank, so I didnt pay much attention to the pic last week. but now that the clam died i'm worried... regardless I diped the remaining clam in a lugold dip for 15 min. as a preventative means. Hope it doesent go too. right now its reacting fine but not full extention.

Well, I got my self a six line wrasse, hope if there are any pesky critters it eats them. I have some flat worms in the tank too... not a lot but some, brown with red dot on them. Hope the wrasse eats them.

For the pyramids, I would recommend a yellow coris wrasse. It has almost eradicated them. My six-lines have never done a thing. If you flip a clam over or lay it on its side (my pyramids are only around the bottom now) for a few minutes, you can observe the coris doing its job. Only problem is my coris also eats the good little snails. HTH

Yeah,
I find the Yellow coris (which is not really a coris but nevermind), to be a better solution than the 6 line.
Main problem with the 6 line, is that after a year or so in the tank it will kill small fish, it becomes very agressive towards small fish in general , particulary small warsse.

If you have the room, I have a six-line wrasse in the same tank with my yellow coris (common name) - Halichoeres chrysus (thanks for the clarification villi). I added them at the same time to prevent the aggression from the six-line.

Infortunatly its a small tank, I wont be able to fit a crin i there, But we'll see the 6 line loks great, and I havent really seen any snails to begin with since everyone seems to think the ones I pictured are ceriths. Hopefully I dont have any. This morning even with lights off the clam looks fine after the dip.

My sixline cruises around my clams and nips around them once in a while, but my clams are fine, so I don't think there is any snails on them.

I don't know if i just didn't have any to begin with, or he ate them.

I just got two baby(and boy do i mean baby) maximas so we'll see what happens...
