http://joesjuice.com/_wsn/page2.html

From it:

-Aitpasia and Majano DO NOT retract while being fed
Most of the Time
-No injection required
True
-No need to siphon anemone out of tank after application
Also True
-No effects on water chemistry
As far as I know, never had any problems here

Thanks. :)

I've found that joe's juice works great and doesn't have any ill effects. my $.02

If you use a Lot of Joes Juice, it can affect the water quality, 1 because theres a lot of dead anemones decomposing (which I would siphon out) and 2 it seems to affect kH. From what I can tell, its just glorified Kalk paste. I had negative effects on my own tank once when I used more than I probably should have, and all the corals reacted very poorly.
But... small amounts used at a time, probably OK

I read somewhere that he adds some shrimp juice to the kalk paste so the anemone is tricked and thats why it doesnt retract right away. They do retract but only after the are smothered in the stuff. Then I continue to bury them in the paste and they are all gone after that. Great product, I wish the bottle was bigger though or you could atleast buy a bigger bottle with a discount for size.

Does anyone know how to DIY this stuff?

ya, grab some kalk powder, mix it with a little RO water to get a runny toothpaste consistency, then apply it like JJ. if applied right over them (like JJ), they eat it also, then melt.

Why don't aiptasia retract when being fed? Does kalk slurry yield the same result?

Having used kalk slurry and joes juice I didn't notice a difference. They both kill aptasia.

I'm going to try following the directions on the patent site. I wasn't adding salt to the mixture before.

Yes, yes, yes and have not had any problems with water chemistry. I did notice you need to hit the Majano with two shots of Joe Juices to get rid of it for good. There are times the Aiptasia will come back and there are time they are gone for good.

Bes t bet is to target it as best you can and have a turkey baster ready to blow off anything that gets on the coral. I had some in with my xenia. Worked great for me, but since adding a Copper Banded Butterfly my Joe's Juice days are over.

JJ has worked for me in and around other corals, just be careful not to over do it, it can hurt good things too. Having the turkey baster ready or just your hand to move it away from good things is wise. Some got to a purple mushroom or two and shrunk them up for a week, but they came back. I also had some large majano that needed two doses. Better to dose twice in small amounts than over do it and hurt you good stuff.

Joe's Juice is a mixture of pickling lime and water. If you want to make it yourself order a jar of pickling lime from a canning supply company and mix with about 10 parts water (feel free to experiment with your own mixture) and you'll have all the JJ you'll ever need.
You're going to have to trust me on this one I know JOE, and that's how it's made.
