are they gonners? PICS! HELP Please

Well, my 3 anthias died and my tang has shown white spots for two weeks now (on and off since introduction). The fish seem pretty happy and eat well. The anthias showed red splotches and quickly died one by one. Now the clown has something amiss... There are no noticeable stressors (fighting).

The clown has white specks and is shy today
The tang has white specks all over and red streaks in tail fin

I have a 90G, 78 deg, 0 nitrate, 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia, trace PO4, pH 8.2. ASM g3 skimmer, UV ster. They are all eating (for now) a balanced diet of greens, cyclopeeze, brine, mysis, etc... (all frozen)

Are they gonners? I am treating the tank with mela and pimafix as per LFS.

Help please... I do not have a q-tank and I dont think I could catch them all anyways.

Makes me want to just keep corals...

I know it not good to not quarantine. I was blessed with two years on a smaller reef tank with no problems...so I got lazy
 
looks like ich and advanced at that do you have a q/t you need to get these into q/t and treat them all your fish.

melafix and primafix will do nothing.

i would use copper as this is quite advanced if you q/t and use copper then you stand a decent chance.
 
That's terrible. I'm dealing with the same thing. If it makes you feel any better your fish look way, way better than mine. My royal gramma is mostly white at the moment.

We got lazy with the qt tank as well. But we got it up and running in a few hours. We're using an old 20 gal with a biowheel filter and a heater. I think Craig was thinking about getting a small UV setilizer for it too. We took 5 gals from the main tank and the rest was new water. Within about 3 hours or so the temp was right where it needed to be.

Seriously, is there a LFS item that will be good?

BTW, Q/T tank is going to be ready for the future!

It does look like a parasite.

While I have used copper before, seriously give some thought, quick thought as your fish need treatment, to using a differnt method.

see how the slime coat is thickening on your clown? That is what some do to help rid the parasite. Copper helps thicken it even more. Since they are pretty sick copper could overwhelm him, thicking the slim coat too much; causing more problems.

Also your yellow tang, with the red streaks may be developing a secondary bacterial infection, you should start an antibotic, like Maracyn-2 or Nitrofurazone.

after much reading I think I am going to go the hyposalinity route. Since I have to leave town for a few days, I don't feel comfortable dosing copper without being there. (I can barely trust a sitter to feed the fish correctly)

If when I get back, they are ok , i'll be happy. If not, I guess the 4 weeks of no fish will be my punishment for not doing q/t.

Every search I have done for no sick fish has not come up with favorable results. No one even knows what is in it as the company will not disclose that information to us.

I have not used it myself. For the cost of it I don't plan on gambling with it either. None of the "experts" have told me to use it or recommended me doing so.

Sorry, to steal the thread with that answer. avatar71 I think QT is the way togo. Sucks you have togo out of town while doing so.

I agree that the only real chance of survival is to treat all exposed fish with hyposalinity in a quarantine tank. It is good to keep a cycled Qtank at all times. The secondary bacterial infection may clear on its own once the parasite is under control. I would not use copper at this point because it can make things worse before they get better. If the secondary bacterial infection is getting worse then you may need to use an antibiotic with the hypo. Furanase, nitrofurazone or Maracyn-Two every day for 7 days. You can change some water before medicating each day.

never heard a good thing about no sick fish and i think terry arranged some testing of it with poor results.
 
i have used it for ich several times(5) with VERY good success. i referred it to my local fish store and saved his 400 gallon reef with it. so everyone who has used it will give their own experience, but i can only say that it has been good for me. i can give tips to help with success ot the product if you would like. and for price 50 bucks doesnt even cover one of my fish. so it was worth it for me
 
i am now over 24 hours in the q/t tank. The tangs red streaks are almost completely gone and he looks and acts better than ever.

the clown looks and acts better too.

the bad news is that the ich killed my neon goby and carpenter wrasse. It looks like my $80.00 radiant wrasse is on his way out to. Too bad.

Salinity is sloooowly dropping and everyone is eating.

Believe it or not, my aquascape looks better than ever since I had to "redecorate"

good and bad news there keep us updated hop it works out ok.
 
hyposalinity gets my vote 100%.

The affected fish that made the transfer are looking perfect now. Cloudy eyes are crystal clear, fins are standing tall, scales are clear of ALL blemishes and the tangs red streaks are gone!

4 more weeks and I'll put them back in the reef!
