are two return lines better than one?

my tank is drilled on the left side, i have 2 returns...

and, i kinda hate it.

the flow isnt even on both sides, the one on the left is much stronger. i was wondering if 2 is better than one, or if i just had one on the right side - if that would be better?

im pretty sure this pump is way stronger than i need it to be... mag 9.5... its just in the sump right below the tank...i havent gotten the pvc couple that i need to throttle it back without hurting it yet, but hopefully i can do that soon.

anyways, suggestions would be nice.

thanks

I am running a mag 12 on my closed loop, I split the return on it and that does not seem like enough flow. So your 9.5 may not be enough flow to split, depending on what you are keeping in the tank.

Two return are nice for the back you have a backup should one get clogged or slightly over ran. If they are 1" returns one would likely be too small for the flow from you mag 9.5

alright, thanks guys.

ill just try to get the flow under control the right way when i figure out what i need (i think its just a T im just not sure what size yet)

Do you possibly have a power head that is forcing more water to one of your bulkheads? Are your bulkheads level with one another, if so is the tank level? To verify, turn your return pump off and let the tank drain down and see if the levels are even from side to side.

When you say return you mean return from the pump (sump to tank) correct not return from the drain ( tank to the sump)...

If you mean the line with your pump hooked to maybe a squid would be a good investment to alternate flow. I don't know how the mag will handle it though. They like to heat up a little when throttled back.

If you mean drain lines then I would run 2, but put durso or stock man stand pipes on them. There is no need for them to run equally either.
