So We've had GBTA for a few weeks. For the first couple of weeks it was in the rocks towards the top of the tank - no where near where our clowns ever go. Ended up tearing the tank down to get rid of an clam killing, lps munching melenarus wrasse and found a new spot for the nem.It moved around a day or two then settled into a spot in the rocks right by the clown's corner. Sure enough I come home from work and they are all over the nem -which is pretty much the only thing my fiance has cared about since we set the tank up - seeing the clowns in an anemone. Great, awesome.....wake up this morning and found that what was left of nem in an mp40...which wasnt much. I pull it out and the stupid anemone crab is still holding on it, and still alive some how. Really couldnt do much since I had to get to work for a meeting but my water was all cloudy. I actually got up and cleaned out the skimmer cause I heard the lid rattling - I guess it pulled a lot of the nem junk out of the water cause it was only 1/4 full last night, and completely full this morning and had a color and smell that Ive never experienced before. I dumped the crab next to our other BTA (which is a crazy neon orange color) but It never comes out of the rocks. I guess if everything is ok ive now got a good reason to buy a rbta!

Bummer about your GBTA!! It happens to the best of us. You definetly need to cover the powerhead with some blue foam or something.. Also, I'd do a 25% waterchange & test your parameters each day for a week; if that nem has some "parts" in the tank that start to breakdown, it could release some nasties...

Hey I've got a couple RBTAs....check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzfZDjcyMd4

I use these for covers. I keep extra ones and just change them out everytime I do a water change. Cut them in half for my maxijets and forced it to fit my mag5.

Trolling probably not needed.

Depending on the size of your tank depends on how much damage a dead nem can do.

Also obviously the size of the nem affects how much damage it can do to your tank as well.

If you plan on keeping anemones, especially BTAs, and you have a MP40 you need to invest in one (3 pack) of these.

I have one MP40 and have had the cover on since day 1, way before I got any.

I lost 2 two weeks ago and I went and got "the split a tank netting" (and frame) I just cut the netting and rubber-banded it to my two 1400 power heads. It sticks out about 4-5 inches past the end. I saw someone elses tank that had a different type netting and now I realize EXACTLY what it was meant for. I knew I should have asked. :(

I put my anemones in large conch shells and suspend them from the top. that way they dont end up in overflows. They seem to like it

I actually skipped the post because of this and started to read the replies to get a jist of what the OP said.

He has a point that when you are scrolling through 100's of threads the ones with the uninterrupted text become taxing to read through.

*Ahem*

Pm's are amazing for advice and don't come off as so rude, please keep that in mind.

Let's get back on topic here.

As far as the filters go, I have extras and change them out every time I do a water change. Sometimes I take a turkey baster and blow the rocks off a couple hours before I do a water change.

I have the foam covers for both my mp10's. I would NOT run a tank with a nem without powerhead covers. Even when I sent my Vortech's back for them to work on I covered a Seio intake with filter floss and secured it with zip ties. Yes it was a little extra work, but I also have clowns that I don't want to die in a nuclear nem accident.
