Are YS Maroons More Prone to Parasites Than Other Fish

I have a Yellow Stripped Maroon (Little Elvis) that seems to be a magnet for parasites. He looks to be very healthy otherwise, that is he eats like a pig, and eventhough he is the smallest of six other tank-mates he is no doubt the BOSS of the tank. He defends and protects his Frogspawn Condo with an iron fist, or fin, as it were. I’ve had him nearly 3 months and have noticed that he always has this one really big parasite, and it has recently gotten really big, maybe a 1/16” long. Sometimes he gets one or two in different spots, but this ONE is always in the same spot, (a little aft of mid-ships starboard side.) Once he had one on his head for about a week, but it either fell off or he knocked it off and I have seen them on his pectorals a few times up close to the body. Those come and go, but the one on his back-side is pretty constant and big enough to flop around when he swims.

Of course my first suspicion was Marine Ich. But after reading up and comparing pictures, I really don’t think this is Ich. I’ve checked it out closely with a big magnifying glass and it looks long and dangly, almost like a little remora, only white.

I have never seen this on any of the other six fish in the tank, not even the Coral Beauty or the Midas who were introduced all at the same time he was. The only thing I see that Little Elvis does differently from the other fish is wallow constantly in that big Frogspawn. I’m thinking that perhaps it is a wound, like a flap of skin or some irritation he is getting from the coral. The thing that drives me nuts is he never flashes rocks or tries to knock the thing off. Whatever it is, it doesn’t seem to bother him.

But it bothers me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what about isopod. its a nasty criter that attaches to your fish. *looking for a pic*

definatly want to get rid of those!!

Thanks, guys for the fast return:

Coofoos: You may be right. None of the other fish go near the Frogspawn, or if they do they make a quick exit. Problem is, the Clown insist on wallowing in it.

Tourkid: Could be an isopod. Fortunately it hasn’t gotten quite that big yet.

Dan: I was afraid someone would suggest that. Catching this little bugger without breaking down the tank will be difficult. Maybe the only way would be to put his Frogspawn condo into a fish trap. If I decide to do this, would RODI freshwater from my LFS be okay to use? Never did a dip before.

wait about 2 hours after its sleeping in the frogspawn, it should be real easy

ro/di water yes
heat it up to the same tempurture as your tank
you MUST raise the ph of the water to the same ph as your tank
you can do this with baking soda, or one of those ph raisers from your lfs
third.. add an airstone to the bucket so it gets enough oxegen

I cant say how long you should keep it in there. I did it for nine minutes once, and the seconds time i did it my fish started to stress really bad so i took it out after 5 minutes.

I know 11 minutes is acceptable but i dont think much longer is a good idea

RO/DI or even de-chloinated tap is fine. Just be sure to ph match the aquarium water and try to get the temp close. They can be tricky to catch. I had to pull my big clarkii out of her BTA to give her a dip. She was so well dug in that I irritated the BTA pretty well; I had a 3 way split within a week. Can't say for sure that was the cause but it's the only thing that had changed.
