hi guys,

a couple of my zoo colonies are not fully opening up or slowly receding. almost all of the zoos that are having problems have been with me for almost 2 months now. all my parameters are in near perfect conditions.

the weird thing is almost all of my old zoos are doing well.
any ideas on what the problem is? im running 2x250 14k mh

have you tried dipping them? to see if anything bad gets knocked off?

Have you in the past 2 months replaced bulbs, new media ? or just replaced anything?

a couple of weeks back i had a general clean up for my tank.
replaced carbon and rowaphos

i started dosing 2 part solution ...

hard sometimes to figure out why zoas do this. i just recently lost about 95% of my zoas for no reason what so ever. i at least know what i did to have caused some what of a problem. i had to rip my tank apart to get a pair of clowns out of it and i guess i disturbed it too much beacuse ever since then my zoas have been slowly melting.

only thing i can say for you to do is to dip them like mentioned above. also make sure you have a decent amount of flow in your tank. that has helped me in the past and i saved alot of different colonies by uping the flow for abit.

I notice that with my zoanthus problems seem to start after a week or so of stripping the water of any excess nutrients. Mostly happens when I try to get the sand and walls really clean by running to much of the filter medias like carbon, phosphate remover, purigen and a skimmer 24/7.
I figure since zoanthus are filter feeders unlike palys and protos they are being starved and thus shriveling up much like a potted plant would that does not receive any nutrients from time to time.
Palythoas on the other hand mostly give me problems with changes in lighting or irritants such as flatworms (I have seen a type that appear to get under the skin of the paly polyps and move about-really weird), worms, nudis (though nudis mostly bother zoanthus from what I have observed), spiders, astrenias and the like.
Mayeb try a freshwater dip with a powerhead directed onto them, then back into a good flow area of the tank. Might also frag them up placing them in different locations if it looks like they are dieing off and maybe save at least some of them.

Read up on dosing Vit C. I havent lost any zoas since starting and they look better than ever!
I have been hearing alot lately about VitC use. Think I am going to give it a try.

thanks!

my zoo colonies can still recover right? fresh water dip with iodine correct?

ill post the before pictures. i hope my zoos can make it.

I started yesterday dosing the VitC. Have done 4 doses. Been a very short time and it may just be either my imagination or coincidence but I notice my zoas are all looking much brighter, fuller and even some that seemed to be staying closed to a degree have opened up. Even 2 PPE polyps that have been closed for a week now have started to open.
I am using the buffered pharmaceutical grade powder.
We will see.
