Ariid Cat "Sharks"

I'm curious if anyone here has kept these fish in a full marine tank? These are the guys labeled as Silver-Tipped Sharks or Columbian Sharks, and juveniles are sold in freshwater but need full strength seawater as adults. I'd like to keep a few in a FOWLR I have and would love to hear your experiences, acclimation procedures, etc. on these fish.

Here are mine in full marine..aprox 10" in less than 1 year..they are about 2 years old now and about 12 inches...

i just gradually increased the salt level during thier QT time

So when you bought them they were in 100% freshwater? How old/big were they at that point? Do you think I would have any trouble getting juveniles, say 3-4" that are in freshwater, and acclimate them over the course of two months to 1.025? I'm thinking maybe adding .002 per day?

What do they enjoy eating?

In 100% freshwater yes..wally world ..getting juvies is about all you will find in the average fish store... .002 aday will be fine

Ive had a good 16in columbian cat shark in my full marine FO. I had a trio about 3 years ago, but one died, and the S&S puffer killed the other, and then i had this one guy till a good 4 monthes ago, i no longer have him, because he got sooo big i traded him in. You can acclimate these guys to full salt in less than 24 hours. I do it all the time with monos and scats. I simply set them in a half filled 10gal tank (full fresh) wit an air stone. And i add about 32oz. of salt water (about half of a 2liter bottle of pepsi) from the display every hour Untill the tank is full, once full check the salinity and if theyre equal toss them in. If not drain the tank some and continue the process. And they seem to do fine for me. I currently have a 7in mono and an 8 in scat that i bought back at the same time.

Not criticizing anyone, but why would you go through all the trouble, and expense of a sw tank. Then add fw fish. It just doesn't make sense to me.

How large do they get, and does anyone have a pic of an adult???

They are brackish to marine fish.. they dont live long life in freshwater.. i also have a ~ inch scat in full marine..i also have mollies and guppies in full marine and if i have a fish (new) eating problem i just put a prego mollie or guppy in the QT tank and bam i now have an eating new fish

Thanks for the comments all, here they are in the hotel I set em up with:

I'll probably add 1.024 tank water daily to replace evaporation, see how that works. In a few days if I feel it's going up too fast, I'll start diluting it. I'll feel better if it takes me a few weeks to a month.

These guys were starving! All three had fairly thin bellies, but the best looking out of the 20 or so they had. Dropped some spirulina wafers and shrimp pellets both mashed up a little and they went CRAZY!

Yes that's a 5.5G with a Emperor 280 on it, intake goes right to the bottom, lol.

Just remember these guys can go from 3-4" to a good 10-11" in less than a year, if they are well fed and well maintained ...
