Arm Length Gloves...

Made of Nitrile. Used for ponds and gardens etc... I assume they are Aquarium safe; however, I thought I would consult some of you smart folks. Any input?

I don't know if that is specifically reef-safe, but you can find a garunteed reef-safe pair of gloves cheaper here.

After researching arm length gloves, I came to the conclusion that most will leak within time. So, instead, I just found and bought a box of disposable gloves.

These are pretty much one-time use gloves, though I have dried my arm off (with the glove still on) and reused one before. Mostly, I just toss them away. I also don't use them all the time - mostly just when I am tired of getting my arm wet.

They work great for me!

I've had 2 pairs of the Coralife gloves. Both developed a leak and I wasn't doing anything irregular or excessive with them. There is a very weak seam between the orange glove and blue sleeve. The hand portion is also very stiff; taking away dexterity. These are just my observations and experience. I won't buy them again.

I have the orange and blue ones too. I haven't had any leaks yet, but the glove part is way to big for my hand and kinda gets in the way. Also, the blue part really starts to get stinky on the inside.

Even with those downsides, I still use them when trying to get to the bottom of the tank because they'll still protect my arm from my anemone.

I Stick my hand right in there as well. However, my Wife, the Physician has seen a few nasty ailments that come from SW tanks. Thus, I am forced to find gloves.

Its so frustrating not being able to find thin rubber glvoes. The ones at Home Depot etc., shorter ones, are perfect. Thin enough you can grab stuff, but not so thin that they tear, or so weak like the disposable ones that start leaking almost immediately.

has anyone found elbow length thin rubber\latex gloves anywhere?

Its killin me that I can't find any.... The blue\orange gloves are pretty worthless, unless your moving live rock around or something. no dexterity, and yes they start leaking after a couple of weeks of use usually.

Would really appreciate someone telling me a place to get some...

Ailment #1 - don't eat your zoanthids - they're poisonous...

Seriously, though, getting any zoanthid juice into your eyes, mouth, etc, is very dangerous.

the bacteria that we love to thrive in our tanks is not especially good for any small cuts or scrapes we have.

I'm not sure why, but even without cuts/scrapes, if I don't wash my hands and arms right away after having them in the water, I get ichy.

Justkeepswimming, I think the link I posted is close to what you asked for. Although, not sure about the Nitrile. Should be close to Latex I assume.

As far as the ailments coming from our tanks. If you read the horror stories here on RC you will find many accounts of terrible things happening to people as caused allegedly by their aquarium. For instance, the guy who smashed a Zoanthid eating NUdibranch and nearly died within minutes. Or, the small cut on the thumb that turned into a mass of funk within 48 hours. The list goes on. Travis Stevens has a list of poisins, toxins, bacteria, etc that has been found in SW tanks.

The Toxin mentioned above that comes from Zoanthids and some button polyp type species that I don't recall the name of. (I have them in my tank) Contain Palytoxin. Google Palytoxin. Nasty stuff. Also, the bacteria mentioned is nasty stuff too. Any small cut on your hand should be gloved I think. At least that is what the wife has said. I don't even have gloves yet. To each his own I suppose.

Oh yes, all these horror stories. Don't worry, my presentation is slowly coming along and there will be more information in there then you can shake a stick at. Just let me tell you it would be a very wise idea to where gloves when working in the tank. Just to saturate your knowledge, just do a search for Palytoxin, Stonustoxin, and Mycobacterium marinum.
