Last year after xmas in the clearance areas at target these remote control ac plugs. Basically used to turn on and off xmas lights without having to go outside or crawl under the tree. The on/off is like a car alarm remote. Click=power is on, click=power is off. I 4 of them up for $3-4 each. I have been using them on lamps and such around the house. Today I had an idea to aid in water changes. I have been mixing in a 20gal trashcan in the kitchen, using a fountain pump from home depot to mix and circulate. I pulled out one of those switches and 20 foot of tubing (will reach all three tanks). Drain water out, strech hose to tank, pull remote out of pocket, POWER ON and the water comes!:D ITS AMAZING! Cut my water change down to like 1/4 of the time!

I've been using a long cord with foot switch for quite a while now
But - I really like the wireless idea!

Thanks for the tip

the only 2 things you have to worry about are the connections coming loose and "stray" signals. I fitted my tubing on with zip ties to give it a little extra security where it hooks to my pump. The issue of stray signals (think of the pump sitting there attached 2 the tubing and someones cell phone turns it on) can be solved by turning off a power strip or unplugging it. The switchs are set to be in the off postion when they are plugged in (or if a power failure resets it). The pump was about $35 dollars from home depot, the kind used in outdoor fountains. The tubing cost about $10 and the switch was $4 for me, but usually are like $10 (look for them at target after the holidays on closeout).
