Hello everyone, I have a A. nigropunctatus that has been with me since the beginning of August.
When I introduced him, he didnt eat for about a week and a half. He got very thin, and one of his eyes clouded up. Also he broke out with ich, the following day. I never had fish with ich in this tank, so I am guessing he introduced it.
Sometimes he breathes out of one gill only. I have a pair of cleaner wrasses that pick at him all day. He gets very dark and angry when they pick at him, and he flings his body around in an insane rage trying to bite them. They are obviously way to fast for him. They do work on his gills, and that doesnt bother him. Sometimes he uses 1 gill, and sometimes he uses both. When he uses one, its apparent he is working it hard. I dont know if the cleaner wrasses may be stressing him out worse, because since I added them, he has been angrier.
His ich goes away during the night, because when the lights come on, he is spot free, but by night fall, he breaks out.
When the noob at the fishstore bagged him, he netted the fish out of the water completly and put him in the container, I told the worker that was incorrect and he said that wasnt true. I have not been back since. I dont know if that is the cause of the problem. I didnt notice it breathing from one gill until a few days after I got him. He has no signs of these diseases, and my fish with him also have no signs of those diseases.
Once in a while a family member or myself will witness the puffer throwing up his food, they say it is white, and Im sure it is shrimp, because that is what I have been feeding him primarly lately.
I have a 15 gallon tank I plan to set up as a QT w/ only water and PVC. He is about 7-8" long. He is not that active so I figured this would be a good size. I was planning on putting him in there today, but wanted advice from others. If I do QT him, what medication or processes should I run in the QT.
Thanks in advance - Mark
by the way, here is my goldbelly buddy
