artificial lightning ?

With controllers and some lighting systems being able to mimic a lightning storm (lights flashing, etc.) does anyone know if it does more damage than good? Do fish respond the way they would in nature? Some might argue that it does nothing more than frighten them since they're not detecting the normal signs they would in nature when a storm is rolling in

Any thoughts?

Personally, I don't see the benefit of trying to mimic nature to that degree. Pure marketing hype to sell fixtures I reckon. Currently I have a set of T5HO retrofit lamps that come on first thing in the morning (halides during the midday period) and up here in the winter time, that means the room is dark, then instant light in the tank. The fish do get spooked and I hope to switch to a dimmable LED set up some day so the lights come on and turn off more gradually. The less stress caused to my livestock thru sudden changes in lighting, the better IMO.
