ASM 2 pump problem

I have a ASM 2 that I modded with a gate valve. Love this skimmer. Problem is the pump burned out. So I was thinking, could I use any pump and hook up the air inductor to it? I have a mag 9.5 sitting around from my pond filter or should I go smaller like a mag 7 or 5? I could not find a flow rating on the sedra 3500

The sedra pump uses a " needle wheel" to chop the air. It's part of the impeller. The mag doesn't.

Thanks Tom. I was thinking about using Enkamat for just that purpose. Should work right? Has anyone changed there pump out for another brand and got it to work? And if you did was it a match to the original one?

I have a sedra 5000 I thought was burned up but the magnet swelled and seized up. I have a replacement on the way but the magnet as it was sitting on the counter " exploded" from sewlling from the rust. ( I will post pics ) I hear the sedra impellors have a habit of this.

I use two sedra pumps on 2 asm skimmers and have for about 5 yrs. I did replace one impeller due to jamming it up with precipitant,years ago. Otherwise no issues.

I'm not sure what the 3500 puts out but the 9000 puts out 900gph on the 4xand the 15000 puts out 1500gph on the 4xx , so it's probably around 350gph as a guess. Maybe you could plumb in a tee and valve from the mag to run off any extra water and tune it in to the skimmer.

Good idea Tom. I've got my Coralife Super Skimmer 125 online right now. Not the best skimmer but it's something for now and it does kind of get the job done lol. Thanks for the great idea but I think I might be ordering a new one.
