ASM G1X Skimmer Help!!

3 layers of p4 mesh PLUS one layer of gutterguard is too much for a Sedra 3500. My Sedra 5000 wont even do that. My sedra 3500 has 3 layers of P4 and kicks butt. I still use it in my live rock curing vat and occasionally in my grow out system. I would leave the gutterguard off. Just my 2 cents worth. The Sedra 5000 on my modded G3 won't even drive 4 layers.

ok, so do you think the mesh might be the problem then? maybe me using the flatback vs the regular p4 mesh made that difference?

do you still have the stock impeller or have access to one? it might be worth putting it back in to see if that solves your problem. just a thought here but it would be worth a try if you have it around and handy.

I tried that first which wasn't any good either which is what made me try the mesh mod.

The gutter guard I used is the overflow guard from an old CPR overflow unit. It has smaller openings than the stuff at home depot. I cut all the pins off the impeller and drilled extra holes for the fishing line tie downs. The pattern is designed to hold the mesh all around and not just in a few spots. It works for me.

But I got the best improvement from doing the recirculating mod.

And here's a link to the mod for the outflow . Because the ASM G-1x is really to short for a full gate valve this style of valve works much better than trying to fine tune the height the pipe.
