ASM G2 Skimmer

they dont come with a manual. just a assembley drawing. ajust the tube up and down for the water hight in the skimmer thats it.
also 7 to 8in in the sump water works good.

IT is almost a must to do the mesh and gate mods on an asm, will work 2x as well with them, or more. search asm skimmer club, or ask and I will snap a photo of my g3, also my parents live out in munson, id gladly swing by to give you a hand. I also have a bit of gutter guard which i like to use more than the enkamat for the mesh mod because it doesnt come apart as much/if at all.

Hmmmm... I never thought of gutter guard. I gave up on the enkamat and went with a new needle wheel because it kept shredding and stopping the pump. I hope I still have the old one to try....

My G2 is kind of a dog. It skims dark nasty stuff just not much of it, and that's with the standpipe as high as it can go. I have it about 4" deep, sounds like that's not enough? I may finally have to build a new sump with a section where the skimmer will really fit. Maybe somebody will want my LifeReef...:)

4" ? sump depth? might want to get it up in the 6-7" range if that is what you mean by 4"

The gate valve mod is a great help tho, and if you are too cheap to buy a gate valve you can just use the $5 valves they sell at HD, just a bit harder to turn the thing slowly enough to get it adjusted just right (I wonder how i know this).

Yep 4"... The skimmer and pump straddle a divider. I had an idea with this sump so the skimmer sits on "legs" about 2.5" or so, I'll try taking them off tonight (I should have thought of that). This sump is pretty nice, I guess, if you use their skimmer. I'll definately redo that impeller too.

I have a gate valve but things were too tight and I didn't like the way it worked. Going to try this when I have time:

Should be the same idea as the gate, and easier to adjust than a ball. Best of all smaller and not 5lbs like the gate valve...
Thanks for the ideas! SOmetimes I just need a kick start!!!:D
