ASM G3 Gate/recirc/feed mods

I am in the process of finishing all three of these mods to my G3 and need to drill the hole for the feed mod. I know Chris uses this method and would just like to know if I can drill the hole anywhere near the top rim of the main rising tube.

I am currently running the G3 with the gate valve and recirc.mods. All I did was drilled the hole for a uniseal to accept the drain pipe from one of my overflows. I drilled it about 1.5" below the 6" black ring on the main body
