ASM G3 - Ozone and pump question

How would I introduce Ozone into the skimmer? I read that I need to make sure that Ozone does not get in the water directly and to run the output water through activated carbon. Any suggestions or how to's?

Second, my pump keeps coming loose from the Skimmer and splashing water everywhere. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Ozone would be sucked in through your air "venturi". AKA the blue flexible tubing. Just T it off and connect the T'd off portion to your ozone generator. To sucessfully run the outflow from the skimmer through carbon you need to do the gate valve mod (recommended regardless) and hang a 100 micron filter bag from it with a bag of carbon in there. My pump came loose at a very inoportune time (when I was at work). Water went everywhere. I used rubberbands to make makeshift o rings then ziptied the pump to the cylinder at the top and bottom of the pump. That sucker is never coming off again!

IS it really necessary to run the water through carbon?
It helps to rid the smell, I don't find it necessary

The carbon isn't removing ozone from the water. The life of O3 in water is something like 6 seconds. I think the carbon is more for the smell like Ti said.

Then again, I may be a complete moron. It's happened before. I'm just too lazy to go look it up.

Ozone won't actually reside in the water. Its in the tiny air bubbles. Running the outflow of the skimmer over carbon will pull the ozone out of the air. If you are going to go through and add ozone with a controller, etc you might as well spend $4 more and run it over carbon.

residual ozone in the air is extremely bad for your health. many studies have concluded to cause premature death, even at a low dose.

definately do your hw before running ozone. Run your output through carbon and all areas where ozone comes in contact with air, to run carbon there as well.
