Asm G3 Protein Skimmer

I have a 180gal aquarium and I am in need of a new protein skimmer. I have been doing some research and was thinking of getting the ASM G3 PROTEIN SKIMMER. I would like to get a Euroreef but it's not in the budget. Does anyone feel I could get a better skimmer for around $250?

I just bought one myself. I have a Euroreef on my 54 gallon but didn't want to spend the $700 on one for my 120. The ASM G-3 was one of my options. I just got it in today and it is HUGE. It's much bigger than I thought. I had trouble fitting it in my sump but it's in there. I ordered the gate valve mod for it and it seems like it will do fine. We'll see. Good luck with it

I use a G3 on my 180 gallon tank. It works quite well. It pulls out alot of junk. I don't have a high fish load, however it performs quite well for me. I think the ASM skimmers are an excellent buy.

get it, mod it, enjoy it. I too run it on a 180 direct feed with recirulation.

I decided to go with the Asm G3... and yes it is a big one! It's a tight fit, but I think it's going to work fine. Many have suggested to modify it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

WOW a 180 with 300lbs of LR. I have a 125 with 225 lbs of LR. My g3 works great in my system without the mods. In yours it might be a good idea to go with the mods.

I modded my G2 to run direct feed and recirc. It has gone absolutely stupid in the skimmate production category. I went from 1/4 full collection cup a week, to a 3/4 full cup every 3-4 days! The smell of the skimmate also went from odorless to near chum inducing.

i have a G-4 on my 180 and was thinking of using the recirc mod how do i go about doing it anyone got some pics or can tell me how to do it....

as is the G4 is working awesome i pull out about 1/2 cup of dark smelly stuff about every 5-6 days

i dont have too many fish either more corals than fish

but all in all good skimmer for the money!!!

I am thinking of doing the recirc mod on mine. The smell of the skimate is allready enough to make you barf. It stinks up the whole room when I empty it. Did you just use bulkheads and silicone ??

I used bulkheads and LOTS of silicone because I couldn't get uniseals locally. I think the uniseals would work quicker, but they are a lot harder to find.
