ASM G3 question

I have my new G3 and I see nothing here that tells me how high the water should be to run it.

Does it matter how high the water is? I guess as long as it covers the pump.

I also did a search in the photo gallary area and saw tons of G3 mod photos.

Why would you modify it and what is it doing differently?

9 inches is perfect on mine. I would not go any less than 8 and no more than 10. I dont think that you need to modify it,

Mine is in 9 inches too. Works awesome.
The gate valve mod makes setting the foam level way easier.
The recirc mod make the skimmer more efficiant.

I've asked this before, but never got reply. What is footprint of your skimmer section in the sump that houses your ASMG3 with GVM?

How is it easier? I guess from looking at pictures, instead of sliding the outlet tube up and down, you can turn the valve?

I am not sure I understand. The original set up does not cut off water when adjusting. The mod looks like you would be shutting down the output when turning the valve. Am I missing something there?

Footprint requires a 11x12. I am making my sump right now and have not put in the baffles for this section yet. I plan to make it as tight as I can, but with enough room to be able to take it out with ease.

A gate vavle simply allows for more precise "tuning" of the skimmer. You're not actually shutting down the output, just limiting it, thereby adjusting the height of the water in the reaction chamber. Believe me if it wasn't useful, do you think so many people here would have the gate valve mod done?

Will do....pretty sure it will be a 11x14 1/2" space since 14 1/2 is my inside width. The depth I am planning on having around 9 1/2". Will probally do this tonight.

Very easy to make - the other benefit is you can adjust the skimmer while not getting your hand wet.

I would suggest getting the skimmer before doing the baffles. The footprint says 11x12 but I couldn't get that to work without the pump sitting against the glass which added noise. It's a tight fit.

Thanks...I actually have the thing here and all setup in my office. I plan on taking it out to the garage to see how it fits and ease of getting it out before doing baffles.

Can't wait for this thing to be done and working. Plumbing will be my next problem
