I have a G3 and am trying to get the inside elbox, 45 pipe installed but I think I have bought every fitting on the planet so far.

What is everyone using? Do we need to use a 1 inch or 1 1/4 pipe then snap the 45 or elbow on that way?

If you are talking about adding an elbow inside the main chamber, I just used a 1 inch pvc elbow and pushed it on the pipe.

Quick question (don't want to HJ the thread)

I have 2-Coralife SS 220's running right now. I want to replace both of the "average" skimmers with a single "good" one.
I can't afford a Deltec right now so ASM will have to do for now.

What ASM skiimer would you recommend to replace them with.
I have a 90gal display with 100gal sump, medium bioload. I want a skimmer rated for at least 300-400 gal.

Heres a pic of my setup as of right now-

Thanks

Get the biggest one you have space for and the biggest one you can afford.
I've never heard anyone complain about the skimmer being to big for their system, but I have heard about complaints the other way around.

Sounds like a good idea.
couple more questions...
Where is the cheapest place to buy an ASM on-line?
Are ASM skimmers Euro-Reef knock-offs?

I do have an ASM G3 and it works very well, However you should at least take a look at the reef octopus line, A lot more skimmer for the money.

Mr. Finn:

So what did you settle on with your mods?

I have used up almost all the enkamat you sent me. One mod worked fine off the bat.... 13-14lpm on my 9000. Today though it's at 10 :(

Other tood 3 tries to get it over 7lpm and ended up using 5 layers. Worried about that one over time..... It's at 11lpm.

Sucked some warm vinegar through today, but still both hover around 10. Still, not bad.

Would like to have a sheet of the material on hand in case I need to do a re-do. Anyone selling enkamat around here?

enkamat material - is this the same material that wrap around the white sponge that usually comes inside the overflow box ?

I think it calls the DSB roll or something like that, would that material still work as the mesh mod ?

thank you in advance

All right ASM recirc. guru’s…I did the recirculation mod this weekend to my G-3 but it isn’t skimming at all. I drilled 2 holes (one for the recirculation pump and one for the feed pump) as prescribed. The feed enters the skimmer body about 3-4” from the top of the cylinder. The feed enters via a ½” vinyl hose attached to a ½” PVC elbow. The water enters the skimmer via a ¾” Uniseal fitted to a ½” PVC elbow that allows me to adjust the direction of the feed water within the skimmer body (basically 2 elbows butted together). I have an estimated 150-200 gph entering the skimmer. The bubbles are about ½ way up the collection cup (experimented with the bubble level as well). I have experimented with greater/lesser flow as well as adjusting the direction of the feed line within the skimmer.

My problem is that I’m not collecting any foam whatsoever. I have experimented with different flow rates and adjusting the direction of the feedline entering the skimmer but to no avail. Also, there doesn’t appear to be much turbulence with the skimmer although it varies depending on the direction of the feed line. The bubble size and water level stays consistent as well. I don’t really understand it. The modifications I made looks almost identical to the other ones on this site as well at ASMskimmer.com.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? If not…I’ll probably just plug the holes one way or another and go back to normal operation.

God bless,
Basset

Instead of saying no skimming, I should have said very little. There is a little foam being produced but it is staying within the neck of the skimmer and not going over into the cup. I’m wondering if I might have turned the flow down too far to adjust for the turbulence I was seeing with the higher flow rate. I purchased a 4 way cross, two 45 degree elbows, and one 90 degree elbow for the feed line. I’m planning on using the cross and the elbows to further eliminate the turbulence within the skimmer body. If that doesn’t work I guess I’ll plug the holes and step back a scratch my head a little. I also bought a T and two 45 degree elbows for the recirc. pump output as well.

Thanks and God bless,
Basset

Help! need impeller mod critiqued

Help! need impeller mod critiqued

Help! did the impeller mod with an enkamat materiel but the impeller keeps hesitating, and wont turn. I dont see anything obstructing it, and I went light for the first time. There is only two layers on it.

I got it to spin once for a little bit, but very little air pull and barely any bubbles.

Any comments appreciated ASAP. I dont have a working skimmer right now.
