ASM Skimmer Question

I have a Super Skimmer which I am tired of. I am planning to create a refugium, this I want a in sump skimmer. I have been looking at the ASM G3 and G4 models. I have a heavily stocked 220g FOWLR. Most of what I have read have been positive, does anyone have any imput? ALso my LFS swears that in sump skimmers are much less efficient than HOB skimmers. Is this true? ANy advise would be great. Thanks.

its rated to 25, but I think I will get the g4, its rated to 350-400. I fiugred more people would comment on the thread. Any problems with this model or are most people with it happy?

I thought in sump was more efficient then HOB. I'm pleased with my G-2 on my 125, I just did the gate valve mod which makes it a lot nicer.

couple of other ASM threads here and here

as for ratings, manufacturers usually go a little high, take a look at this chart

For the price 4 years back when I got mine was a good deal. Now there's probably better preforming skimmers for a similiar or lower price.

agreed. i purchased a G4 for my heavily stocked 120 gallon several years ago. i thought it did very well. i then modified it for recirc and felt it was slightly improved.

but now im looking for a more modern skimmer that may out perform my G4 for my current system, or i may look at improving the pump and impeller to see if i cant get even better results.
