asm vs euro-reef...again

i'm on a tight budget here since i'm only 18, and need advice on what skimmer to buy for my 75 gallon...i'm choosing between the asm g-2 or the euro-reef cs80 since both are around $200-250. Even though the asm has a higher tank rating, the euro-reef gets nothing but good reviews...which would pull more skimmate out, and which would you choose.

I own both a EuroReef and an ASM skimmer. I honestly believe that they perform about the same. The tank ratings on the ASM skimmers tend to be higher than they should while EuroReef may be a little conservative. A good idea may be to use the specs on the proper sized EuroReef skimmer and find an ASM skimmer with the same specs (height, diameter, pump, etc..) and ignore the ASM tank rating.

ASM rates their skimmers high. They would both be good for your tank whichever you choose. I myself would buy nothing but ASM's as I love they way they are built.

i was going to buy the ASM but was told the euro-reefs hold up better for long term due to the plastics used...i want to buy one skimmer and not end up buying another one a couple years down the road

not wanting to buy another in a couple years, put the extra $15 in and get a G3 instead.
purchased my g3 from asmskimmer.com for $263 to my door.
The g3 is much more skimmer than a G2.

I would also skip the G2 due to only a few $$$'s more & you get a G3 :) I have one on my 90g

With the ER's, I definantly prefer the quality of my ER over the ASM. I think the ER is easier to clean/use however others feel ASM's are easier. I have a ER on my 260g

H20 has Blem ER's which you might want to consider, pretty nice discounts which would bring the price down to what a G3 would cost

Well if your gonna play football with it go with a ER, if you are gonna use it as a skimmer go with ASM:p
I LOVE my G-3:D

Viggen, I have some older ERs and newer Ers. I think they use the same neck as the asm now. Perhaps some one can comment on this.
JB13,
I am skeptical of the extruded acrylic as well, but I have yet to find anyone who doesn't like their ASM or ER. So your best bang for buck will probably be an ASM if your going new.

I.M.O. I would go with euro reef. To me asm is just a cheap knock off. If your looking to save a little money buy a coralife super skimmer.

You've obviously never seen an ASM if you think it is a "cheap knock off". IMO, they are well built, for what they do. They are skimmers, not toys.. And the performance is incredible.

I like my ASM (G2 /w Sedra 5000) .. Get the G3 /w the sedra 5000 pump. 3500 pump is a piece a crap :D..

Did you have to do any mods to use the sedra 5000? I have the G2 and was considering getting the sedra 5000. I do currently have it set up recirculating styel.

Sorry for jumping in so late. I have both, and there is a difference in the thickness of the units, the ER thicker. But thats about it, both kick out lots of junk. I have the G4+ with the 9000. Both units with the gate mod. This brings me to the real question, why mod these, why don't these units come this way? Both manufacturers agree that the performance is enhanced.

Yes Ive seen and had 2 asm. Compared to my euro reef there cheaply made. I'm not saying they dont work but to me euroreefs are built alot better and work better

i'm confused...how many lines of euro-reef skimmers are there...i've seen the ES series, CS series...theres cs100's and cs6-2's...somebody help me sort this out
