asm vs euro-reef...again

The cs 6-2 and so on are last years models. the new models are cs80 cs100 and so on . The rs are recirculating. I dont think they make the es versions anymore. I orders one from h20 tropicals as a blem and the only thing wrong with it was the collection cup cover was blue instead of black

ER=higher quality
ASM=cheaper
ER BLEM=Pure Pwnage

My thoughts exactly.

CS = cast acrylic with hot welded seams
RS = cast acrylic with glued seams
ES = extruded acrylic with glued seams

I have an RS5-3 blem... $160 and works great.

I have had H20 tropical Ers that are still broken. I have acrylic working tools at home, so its not a big deal... but for some the so called blems that work may not be the best option.

For me its the only way to go though :)

Well if your gonna play football with it go with a ER, if you are going to use it as a skimmer go with ASM:p

Well damn, I wanted a Skimmer Football :mad: and all I got was a hell of a skimmer with my ASM. But I guess I can buy some frag's with the money I saved, I just can't throw it around the back yard.

I just started running a ASM g4+. I'd say the comments are about spot on in my experience... ASM is not as high quality--and that's why they are cheaper to buy. It'a a remarkable performer right out of the box though... I can't fault it for what it does, it's just that I don't get that sound feeling of quality and craftsmanship that I do with my Geo calcium reactor. . .

There are some very minor irritants with the ASM G4 in relation to the workmanship and materials. These issue I have do not affect the great performance, but all of the seals leak just a tad. Enough to give that salt creep look I hate in no time. It's a minor issue but still and irritant.

We all sit a bit differently on the price/performance range. I think I'd rather of spent the extra $ and stepped up to the geo skimmer myself. I'm very impressed with my calc reactor. I'd rather spend the extra about $100 and have the feeling that the unit will be as trouble free 2 years from now as it is today.

I.M.O. I would go with euro reef. To me asm is just a cheap knock off. If your looking to save a little money buy a coralife super skimmer.

I beg to differ.

Asm g-3 and er 8-2 side by side here buddy . Love them both , As a matter of fact I run 2 asm skimmers and 2 er skimmers in my house.

I went with the moded G3. Time will tell if I chose correctly. Thanks for the pics clkwrk. I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see all that waste being pulled out.

2years And only thing that can wear out is the needlewheel or pump .

IMO most everyone is too cheap to replace a 35 dollar needle wheel once a year to keep them running like new.

Also if asm's delcine with age so do Euro reefs as both mine have the same pump and needlewheel.

both having the same pumps and needle wheels, same size and shape, i would say they produce exactly the same amount of bubbles/skim. that being said, since thinkness does not effect performance, i bought the asm g-3. all take the few extra hundred dollars and buy some nice sps. no one sees your skimmer, so save the money... IMO

There is a reason why ASM and ER use the same stuff, ASM was started by an ex ER employee. So alot of the tech is shared between them. ASM is a great route to go for less money. They last, they use great Pumps and they have great Support. Nuff said.

IMO it depends on what model you buy. Some of the new ER's come with differnt pumps now. These new pumps make ALL the difference in performance. But if you want a killer skimmer for cheap, the ASM is a good deal.

Here is my skimmer with the new sp4 pump. Look at how fine the bubbles in the neck are. Top notch;)
