Asm?

What do you guys think about the ASM's? I need to get an in sump skimmer that is about 22 inches tall or so and costs about $200-250. I am thinking the ASM-G2. What do you guys think?

I have always liked the ASM skimmers. They are not as pretty as the Euro-Reef skimmers, but I think they can work just as well, and that's what counts.

The G-2 is 21 1/4" tall and the G-3 is 23 1/2" tall. Make sure you measure carefully.

Get a G3 if it is in your price range and it is short enough. I just replaced my aquac Urchin with a G3. The Urchin was rated for up to 75 gallons and just wasn't doing the job. I would find the skimmer that is rated for your tank, and then buy the next higher model.

I was thinking about a ASM G2 a few months ago. Went to a lfs that carried them and was not impressed with the floor sample, leaked at the seals and neck so I went with a blem ER CS5-24 instead from H2Otropicals.com. Never had a problem and churns out a ton of green goo.

Yeah, my G3 leaks, but it is in the sump so I don't care. I would not run one external thought because of the leaks.

I have a ASM G@ on my 120 gallon and I couldn't get that cup full if I left it on for a month. When you clean them, the skimmer starts to fall apart. Very cheaply made product...I am currently looking for it's replacement. Maybe a H&S or Deltec!!!!!

You are definately going to be in the minority here. You must have it setup incorrectly. I can fill a cup in a week with either my G3 or G4x. What is falling apart?

Thanks for the input everybody. Everybody seems to like different skimmers for different reasons but the opinions you all have are pretty overwhelming....I think the G-2 is what I will go with. Anyone know of any place it is cheaper than at premiumaquatics?

Yeah I fill a cup a week on my G2 as well.

The only problem I have had is w the seal from the skimmer to the pump falling off. I ordered one of those uniseals to replace it but I got the wrong size, so have to reorder.

What size did you get. It should be the 1" uniseal. If you need one, PM me your mailing address and I'll send you one. I ordered a case of them and have a few left over.

Wow you have some good prices on your site! How do you get around selling them under ASM's new minimum advertised pricing?

I thought I bought a 1 inch. It did not fit, someone said I needed a 3/4 inch.
