I saw the Macneill's Assessor Basslet on DD late last week and I am STILL kicking myself for not buying it on the spot. Still, the reality is that I am not one for impulse purchases and certainly not with thing that go into the reef tank. SO, I figure it is a good time to learn about this fish so that I can indulge in impulse if it comes up again

How well do these guys fit into a tank? Stores say they are semi-aggressive but then forum posting/experience is that they are peaceful.

Anyone with real life photos?

They're pretty mild. I never got a picture of mine, because he was so cryptic. Always hung out deep in the caves in the tank. He would dart out for food, and then hide again.

I have 3 of the yellow version, and will be getting two more.

One is wild caught. Looks amazing. The other two were from ORA, and look horrible. Their color is bland and they look dark.

However, they all hang out upside down in the caves and as my scape is quite open, I see them all the time. They rock, big time. I'll add two more wild-caught (or at least some that look good) and make the set.

They eat well, and play well with others.

(others: tangs, gobies, blennies, potters wrasse, cleaner wrasse, blood shrimp, peppermint shrimp)

I have one and he actually has grown to be one of my favorite fish. Forget about catching him though I moved and tore down my tank and he jumped out from the bottom and literally smacked me in the face and cleared the tank by a foot and I have a 24in deep tank. He mostly chills in a cove behind my rockwork and comes out at feeding time swimming in the current and snatching out bits of food.....he loves to swim sideways or upside down.

Give the ORA fish some time. The one I have took some time to color up.

Now the big question is how to find one? The DD on was perfect but gone. I cannot find one anywhere.

Been 5-6 weeks... i'm not hopeful any longer... but if all fish are 10 of 10 nothing stands out...

I do hope you are right though... I feed a very wide range of nori, pellet food, and frozen... multiples of each each day... trying to give them all the healthiest diet I can...

found two more yellows today... jumpped on them... awesome colored.. so 3 of 5 are wicked.. .and with hope and time the other two will color up... ALL are upside down from time to time... these, IMO, are must have fish... hehe... jump on those yellows...

HOWEVER, i've heard (not experienced) that if you mix blue and yellow they will intermix/mate... and you get some kind of hybred... could be neat...
