at what point will low alk.impact the tank?

so with the busy holidays and what not i wasnt really payin much attention to tank parameters,and early last week some of my softies were lookin less than happy .after running the tests everything was reading low alk.being the lowest at around 6.0 spent the past week bringing everything back up.as of last night after a 55 gal water change temp 76.0

alk 8.3
cal 410
mag 1470
i was just wondering how close i came to wipeing out my system. thanks for the info steve

i just babysat a tank with 4.2 alk (sailfert). tank was very unhappy,but everything made it. i was very careful to raise alk slowly.

wow.i would have bet the farm that numbers like that would have been disasterous

Depends on what you're keeping and how quickly the alk drops. If it crashes fast, that's a lot worse than a slow decline like you experienced low riderr.

Also, IME, quick swings up and down are more detrimental than low alk that has taken awhile to get low.

yea, i am shure it was a slow drop.just didnt expect it to be that low.freaked me out thats for shure.
