ATB Skimmer Question

Folks,

I have an old ATB Small Cone skimmer, and the Ehiem pump just died. I'm considering replacing it, but then got to thinking about taking the money spent on a new pump, and buying the new ATB 840v2. Any thoughts on if the 840V2 is a step up performance wise over the Small Cone?

Thanks!

IMO, the pump is as important or more than the skimmer.

The ATB 840v2 uses the new sicce sycra pump which I think is excellent for that sized skimmer. Mine runs on a 72g bowfront in a proflex 4 sump. I have no complaints.

I have a v2 and when I compared the skimmer body to the v1.5 there were only slight cosmetic differences, though the neck was slightly taller on the v2. Unfortunately, I don't know the differences between the 1.5 and the original ATB Small. That said, I think you'd see a performance difference with the new Syncra pump since they did make adjustments to the pinwheel (I was given only one versus two with the previous model) and volute. Also, the start-up issues with the previous motor has been corrected.
