I received my ATI 6x39 SunPower Dimmable yesterday ( it will replace my AI SOL's led's ) Iam just wondering if theres a any rule on placing the bulbs in the fixture? the bulbs i got:
2 ATI Coral Plus
3 ATI Blue Plus
1 Korallen-Zucht Fiji Purple Special Red/Blue
I know the Fixture is divided in two channels ( 2 bulbs and 4 bulbs ) I will run the 2 bulb channel in the mornings and in evening the most the get the most pop of the corals, wich 2 bulbs should be used for the 2-bulb channel?

any input would be great, i tried to search but didn't get to much info
Thank You
Peter

current:
-from the front
ATI Coral Plus (1st channel)
ATI Blue Plus (2nd channel)
ATI Coral Plus (1st channel)
ATI Blue Plus (1st channel)
KZ Fiji Purple Special Red/Blue (2nd channel)
ATI Blue Plus (1st channel)

That sounds good to me. I might run both blue plus in the 2nd Channel. Try it and see if you like it. That is what I run. Sometimes I run one blue plus and one actinic. That gives me a similar look with a little more purple hue.

How do you like those coral pluses? I've never used them. I'm thinking of switching my aquablue specials out for them or using one of each. I currently have 2 blue pluses, 2 aqua blue specials, an actinic and a purple plus.

I have to ask why you are replacing your ai sol's? I'm in the middle of a 75 gallon sps build and am torn between ai's and ati's. Any personal experience wold be great. Believe me I do not want to start a led vs t5 argument. Thanks.

I never had T5's so the coral pluses look very nice for me :) but i never seen any other ones, well i did but never paid attention...

I switched the bulbs around a little, now front to back is:
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Coral +
Blue +
Coral +
Blue +

I will see how it looks after the 1st channel goes OFF

My recommendation and I think it's a very smart way to run this set up, once I change my bulbs out I will follow the same routine.

Front to back:
Blues plus
Coral plus
Fiji purple
Blues plus
Corals plus
Blues plus

Run the 4 bulbs first and the 2 as a mid-day punch. This would make your set up more effective, some would argue its too much but I think not. The bulb set up should make a nice coloration and the corals will pop with that figi purple upfront.

Now I have them:
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Coral +
Blue +
Coral +
Blue +
I still run them at 100% for 9am-9pm 11" above the water level, its preety high and the light is all over my kitchen and living room, but after the 50hrs ( break in period ) I will lower the lights to 7-8"AWL and it this will be to intense I will play with the %

any input on how to setup the timmers and dimmers?

Are you still doing a 2 bulbs on, followed by 4?

I don't have a dimmable unit but I'm running the powermodule. As of now I have mine about 7" from the water line but plan to move it to around 5-6". I'm keeping mostly SPS so the intensity will be great. Like I've said, I'll be doing the 4 bulb then 2 bulb when it comes to turning them on. That will maximize the lighting. I believe most are running 10-11 hr schedules and the main lights coming on and off within an hr of the dusk/dawn. I plan to do the same but for now since I am slowly acclimating my corals, I am taking it really slow. It's being lowered every few days and once that is done, I'll start bring up the photo period to 11 hrs for the dusk/dawn and 9 hrs for the mid-day punch.

Not sure how true it is but from what I read, dimming the T5 bulbs shorten the life. I replace mine yearly while some say they are good for 2 years.

I think that dimming the bulbs wont help with the life of them...
But my plan would be to start at 8am and run them till 9PM , and the 4 bulb i will run from 10am till 7pm
I would dimm the 2 bulbs only i think as i dont like the ON/OFF but if I dimm them slowly up in the mornning and down at night I will be very nice

theres 2 fans on my light, only one is always on, the light doesnt go past 40c degress, is the 2nd fan kicks in when it gets to hot? or maybe they both should be on all the time and mine is broken...

Does your fixture allow dimming??? Mine does not.

I run my timers almost exactly as you just described. Mine are on a total of 13 1/2 hours or I wouldn't ever get to see my tank much. They come on at 8 and the main lights kick in from 11-7 then the rest go off at 9:30.

yes i got the dimmable one

also i just got back a email straight from ATI and I been told that both fans on the fixture should work together ( only one works on mine ) they told me to pop the fan out and check the connections...
kinda wierd stuff for a HIGH END fixture....:worried::worried::worried:

I am also doing the same...switching to an ATI powermodule Dimmable (from reefgeek as they have it though they are discontinued) and replacing my AI Sol. I had the light for a year and I'm not impressed with it...if you have to supplement an expensive light, it's not worth having IMO.

There is also a massive T5 thread here on TC.

Forgot to point out that I have yet to stumble upon conclusive evidence that dimming T5's reduce it's life. Since people said the same thing about LED's and nothing happened with mine or of any dimmable compact fluorescents I use in my home, I consider the statement highly speculative. Only way to find out is to actually dim them in an experiment alongside a placebo.

I also just ordered a dimmable sunpower from reefgeek. I had the SOL blue on my tank and am getting nothing but problems..Some people do great with them, I am not one of them.
