ati sunpower

Hello all I will make this short and sweet. I have a 4x80w ati sunpower fixture. Now what happened I am not sure but the ballasts are shot they will not turn on and it smells like burnt electrical work. My question is this is it worth it to run a new ballast that will over drive the bulbs or just stick with what I know that works. Should I upgrade the fan. And is there anything else that I can do to upgrade the light and is it worth it. Thanks in advance

Only use ballasts that are designed for the fixture. Over driving won't accomplish much but create more heat and kill bulb life.

Make sure the fans are running at either 7.5v or 9v.

If the unit is 1 year old or less it is still covered by ATIs warrenty... Contact ATI America for warrenty coverage. If beyond a year contact Reefgeeks.com for replacement ballasts and make sure you clean and ensure fan is turning properly.. There are also short DIY vidios on ATI sight on how to clean fans and replace ballasts as well as trouble shooting...

Good luck and remember you have one of the best light fictures out there...

This fixture I bought second hand and is not under any warranty. Not that lbig of a deal seeing that I got a 5' ati for 150 and got a yearish out of it till this happened. There are actually nice step by step directions on how to replace everything that goes with ati on youtube. I was just wondering if upgrading was worth it or jusy staying stock would be better.

Just wondering if anyone else has any opions on this

There's no point in overdriving the bulbs like rtparty has stated. It raises the bulb temp and shortens the bulbs life span. Ati is known for their high par values and quality so I'd just replace the ballast with a stock ati ballast. Even Benz's and BMW's break down sometimes. The Ati sunpower is fine German equipment.
