I have an atlantic blue as well. I got him last september and he was only 3/4" big. He is now 3.5" and a dark yellow. I'm eagerly awaiting the blue transformation which seems to take forever. How long did it take for them to turn blue after they started lossing their yellow color? Mine shares my 180g tank with 2 other tangs, a RedSea Sailfin & a Purple. They all get along fairly well and are about the same size.

It didn't take too long. I have had these tangs since last spring and they have grown very fast. I think it varies actually. In the wild, I have seen ABT's that were the size of the ones I have and completely yellow still. So I think it varies with the individual. Mine just sort of gradually got darker as the months went by until now they pretty much have their full adult color.

I wonder if it made a difference that there were 3 of them. ie. a race to adulthood.

It's possible. There is also obviously a pecking order. Since the 2 bigger ones beat the smaller one into submission.

These are my favorite tang, they are so pretty A LFS in naples had one that was about 14" in a 200gal+ tank for sale and that thing was huge!! It had to have been 12" tall too, it looked like it was kinda big for even the 200+ tank lol I would get one as long as i had at least a 180 gal tank.
