ATO question and H20 Change question

I currently have a TUNZE NANO OSMOLATOR.

Does running SALT water through the ATO cause any damage?

My current water change process: Use a MJ1200 submerged with a flex tube into a 5 gallon container.

Then I just dump 5 gallons of saltwater back into the tank.

I have 20gl AIO frag tank. So when I pour 5 gallons of water in it distrubs the sand bed quite a bit.

I was thinking as an alternative, just stick the ATO pump into my 5 gallon water jug and slowly pump the 5 gallons back into the tank. This would take longer but less disturbance.

The only reason I can't use the MJ1200 to pump water back in is because the HOLE for my water container is too small to submerge the pump.

I tried to retrofit the pump with a tube to pump water from my container into the tank by running it unsubmerged but 3 feet of head way is too much apparently so it wont draw the water up.

Make this. Just set on the edge of tank, pull the spout to empty as slowly as you want

Use a gravity feed from a small container with air hose. If you put a knot in the line it will not drain too fast. You may have to pull the knot slightly tight to adjust it and the container has to be slightly higher than the tank. Cheap.

Sounds like you need a new container and all your problems are solved.

How about a bucket or small rubbermaid brute?

This would have been perfect if I made my own water. I might have to just rig this so I can drive around without all the water sloshing out. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks for the response Blue, I was trying to avoid switching containers. I guess I was really strung on making the mj1200 work since I already have all the working pieces. I didn't want my 5 gallon water jugs to go to waste.

Thanks for the response reddtiger88, i think I will try the spout options first. Having to control the tubing is cumbersome for me. Going for a more autonomous version

The mj1200 can be run externally. If you could attach a tubing fitting to the front intake and of course long tubing on the output, what you want to do is possible. I think the pump would have to be below the water level of your containers so that it "primes" though.

If you know someone in health care, have them get you a 10 drip per ml IV drip set. They come with a roller clamp you can use to precisely control how fast it will drip in.
