ATO reservoir placement / raised?

Can at ATO reservoir be raised above the sump? Will that cause an issue once water starts pouring over?

My current reservoir is just a 15 gallon rubbermaid container but its very ugly. I need to figure out how to make it look prettier..

no, at least with any ATO I have seen if the reservoir and pump is higher than the sump being filled it will keep flowing after the pump turns off.

With normal pumps it would create a siphon. You would have to use a peristaltic pump.

This problem is fairly easily handled. The Tunze Osmolator (for one) has an optional solenoid valve for precisely this purpose. Instead of shutting off the pump, the sensor closes the valve.

This is how people who plumb their ATO directly to the sump turn off the flow of water when the level is reached.
