Ato

I've had my ATO top of unit now for 1 week , wow what a difference in the amount of work .Don't know what I did without it. It's uses about 3 gallon of water in about 5 days . I love that thing.:lolspin:

It's been so long that I haven't had one I forgot what a pain it is to top off daily. An ATO is certainly one of the biggest labor saving pieces of equipment, not to mention that they dramatically improve overall system stability.

God I love my ATO, it allows me a good 10 days of not having to do anything but feed. Good old 20gal brute, plus I use my ATO to run my kalk reactor and dose vinegar through it.

Thanks, very informative. might take me awhile to wrap my thick skull around that though. don't you get tired of newbies asking all these ?'s Again Thanks!

You don't have much evaporation there do you? I mean ATO content evaporates too?

3 days into the hobby is all it took of me manually topping off to realize that I needed an ATO!

I have my ATO feeding off a 35g brute can. I fill it up once a week as I also use the water in there for water changes.

I've been on vacation the last two days and did a WC before leaving and now wondering if I plugged it back in before leaving. I hope so lol.

ya I get evaporation about 2 gl. every 3-4 days , I don't have a top on my 90 gl. tank so that doesn't help. but I hate glass tops.i have one on a 47 gl. cube and all I do is clean it. always hanging with water. I don't think the light works as good either . it took me about 3 months or so and I had enough. now its a dream. about dosing can I add just about anything to the fresh water. and dose slowly.

I bought the Tunzi name ato for my nano before my vacation. It worked great during my vacation. Then 3 days later it dumped the entire content of my reservoir into the tank. I was so mad, I almost smashed it. I'm back to manually topping get it off atm.

Can ATOs attribute to long term salinity swings? Anytime water is removed by means other than evaporation, salinity will change because fresh water is replacing salt. If you are testing a lot of water, taking out and drying rocks, taking your hands in and out of the tank often, I can see that adding up to be a decent amount of saltwater. I guess the ATO unit can be disabled until the sw is replenished but does anyone worry about this?

Thats really odd, was it the nano ato kit ? Or the Osmolator? Surprised that tunzes internal timer didn't kick in and stop the pump in either case, might want to contact Roger Vitko, he offers wonderful customer support.

Salt in general doesn't evaporate, your salinity will rise slightly due to evaporation, which ishould why having a ATO is a great asset wIth reef tanks, however, skimmate collected needs to be taken into consideration, also if using two part/balling you need to monitor salinity as it may creep up, over all a reliable ATO is valuable asset to any reefer, plus there is the opportunity to run kalkwasser which is and excellent, balanced way of replenishing alk/cal in a reef with low to moderate demand.
