attaching bubble tip anenome

You don't make it stay put. You can put it where you would like to put it and then it will go where it wants to go. If you have any powerheads in the tank you need to protect them. The creatures have the consistency of jellyfish and will easily get sucked into the powerheads and turned into soup. Check out this site for more info.

You let it loose and it finds where it wants to stay put. . . .

I agree but there is a way I have seen work
Put the anemone in a shallow margarine container about 1/4 filled with substrate from your tank. Let it stay in there for a couple of days.
Then bury the margarine container in the substrate right up to the top so you don't see the sides of the margarine container.
If the anemone stays then gradually you can build up the substrate in the margine container

I started with 2 tiny BTAs 2 ys ago (both aquacultured, they're becoming scarce in the ocean and should avoid buying wild-caught). They've now cloned into 15 large versions, 3 of which are about 12 inches across.

While some have move around the tank when they're smaller (including catching rides on passing snails) I've never had them burn any other tank inhabitants. Trick to not losing more is having no power heads they
can get at in the tank (sump system and the turbelle power head hangs
from a post they would find difficult to climb).

My experience in keeping the put is having lots of porous live rock with holes they can anchor their feet. Also have general good circulation but areas they can escape direct floor. Moderate lighting.
If you give them all of the above and your params are good they should flourish.

In general I don't recommend people try anemones until they've got at least a year or so of experience dealing with other inverts. They're moderately difficult to keep healthy. Reed all the FAQs you can on this.

Capn,

I think I have seen here on RC, that someone posted that they put the their BTA on a rock where they wanted it to be. Then used that plastic mesh/gutter guard ( for keeping crap out of the gutters ) & formed a circle around the anemone & left it there for a week or so. He said the anemone never moved ???????

My anemone stayed put when I put him in the tank. Dropped it in and that is where he has been for 6 months. I gave it some thought on where I figured he would be happiest ( Flow, lighting, etc).

sometimes you get lucky and its better to do this method if you don't have many established corals
I had success this way with my rose tip and it hasn't moved in two years.
They like to be able to contract up into a hole in the reach or at least have their back against the reef. So if trying the method introduce them to a spot where they can do this.
