Attaching large colonies back together

I have a large neon green Finger leather colony. I have noticed that some of the branches which where touching nearby rocks have attached to those rocks and seperated themselves from the main colony.

I was wondering if remove the branches from the rocks and tie them down next to the base of the main colony will they fuse back together? or will they continue to grow seperate from the main colony?

I think the point is that they are spreading apart so that they can obtain more light and not be stuck together. Its all about getting as big as possible and spreading out increasing its chances of survival. You probably could remove the branches and move it closer, I doubt they will fuse back together but who knows? I would just leave it.

Thanks for the replys. I ended up seperating it from the new rock it had attached too and attaching some of the branches to the old rock and some branchs to ruble for frags to sell. Right now it looks pretty rough because there was a good amount attached to the other rock but im hoping it will turn around fast.

Do you think its best to keep in in low to medium flow (where it origionally was) or move it into a higher flow area while its recovering?
